Under Destruction

As of January 2024, Off with their Records is undergoing major restructuring. We're moving to Bandcamp and we're completely changing our web infrastructure. It doesn't sound like it but this is actually all very exciting stuff as it represents a significant change in the way we operate. Funnily enough, some of these changes are a return to the original ethos and modus operandi of the label. Over time I have tried various new developments as well as made moves to adapt to cultural currents, the change was good and has served us well but it's time for more changes and the original principles of the label still stand tall and guide those changes. One significant return to the past is that we're moving our website back to Tumblr. This has been made possible by the fact that Tumblr stopped peddling in porn so it's now a viable choice of website that won't get filtered out by people's browsers. Which is great because Tumblr is free! None of this will explicitly affect you, dear fan, but everything will look and feel better. More real, more DIY.

Thanks for your continued support, follow us on Bandcamp and Instagram bookmark OffwiththeirRecords.co.uk to stay up to date with Norwich music.

BLOG

Over the last couple of months we have been working closely with Takeda on their new release and, as is our remit, we have not jumped through the hoops, mechanically doing all the things you're told to do when releasing music, we've treated this release like the unique phenomenon that is, handling it in a way that elevates and extends it, drawing out all its depths and exploring all its wonders in the very way we release it.

Over the past few months we've been dropping parts of the album, performance videos, EPs to stream, artwork and singles, to really make it an experience. Rather than just dropping the album in one go we've kind of made it a 2-month-long album release.

If you go to Spotify you can find 3 distinct EPs from Takeda from the 'Magic Words' release event; consummate sets of songs and artwork that stand alone in their own right. If you go to YouTube you can find a performance video of 'Solomon's Mines' and an artwork video for the single 'Cessation'.

The full album will be released on July 8th with a launch gig at the Louis Marchesi with live performances from Takeda, Pretty Terry, The Ornithologists and Jake Raywood. There you can get the CD which has a poster album sleeve and the download which contains extra material. Every format of release, stream, CD, download or video, is unique and exceptional tailored specifically for that format. That is what we do at Off with their Records.

Hello. We have a whole load of releases lined up. Over the next few months we have a string of EPs from Takeda culminating in an album with a launch gig at the Louis Marchesi on 8th July. We have the new album from Tom Conway coming out with a launch gig on 28th June. The last Tom Conway album sold out, it's nice to be doing something again that gets such a wonderful response. In the same vein as the Takeda release we have a string of EPs coming out from Jessica Aspinall culminating in an album. And of course we have the long-awaited Joey Herzfeld album just waiting on a few bits of additional art.

There's a new episode of PMVpodcast out featuring Aaron Gould-Magee, follow The Project Multivitamin Podcast to find nearly 10 years of Norwich music. And we have plenty of gigs coming up too, check out our live events list above.

It's a lot of stuff. Excuse me now, I have work to do.

Some of you may have noticed that we (Ideal Surreal, Off with their Records and Howlback Hum) have partnered up to put on a new monthly live music night every 3rd Friday of the month at The Rumsey Wells, Norwich. The night hopes to adopt the spirit that used to underpin the Music House nights that ran weekly for over 2 decades at the historic Jurnets Bar. With Jurnets now closed we wanted to bring a little of that magic back. Last month we used the night as a launch event for The Ornithologists EP with a line-up of amazing performers. Unfortunately Shane was still testing positive for covid and couldn't really play his own launch gig, so we are going again.

April 15th at The Rumsey Wells The Ornithologists are actually playing this time, with support from Amy French (Blisster) and Pete Murdoch (Birds of Hell). If you know who they are you know it's going to be a damn good one.

Free entry.
